Geospatial Beijing

I’ve you’ve been following my blog this year you’ll have seen many of the pictures and stories from my travels in Beijing (and beyond). If you’re planning a trip here or just curious to see where these great places are exactly I’ve used Google’s new map creation tool to mash it all together on a pretty detailed satellite map of Beijing.

If I do say so myself I think it’s pretty neat! Be sure to check out some of the cool things to the northwest of the centre (including where I live!) and come back again as I’ll be updating it frequently.

love the inter-active map! Where abouts are the Hutongs? You have explored loads of fantastic sites. Loved the piece about the incredibly hot dish – hope you've recovered (don't know if I could cook that at home!!!!)

  2. Glad you like it! The Hutongs are a bit difficult to locate as I've visited many of them, usually in passing to going somewhere else – I'll try to figure out where they are an put a few more pins on the map! You can already see one where the underground city is.

I know it’s been almost 9 years since this post but I just have to…

YOU LIVED RIGHT NEXT TO ME!

What a small world, as some say. You lived in one of those small hotels behind 左岸公社 (Rive Gauche Commune… fancy name indeed) where the gigantic Xinhua Bookstore is. And I used to live in an apartment just across the 4th Ring Road, a 10-minute-stroll distance from your hotel at most.

I first found this site because of Ghost in the Shell Hong Kong a few month ago, though I didn’t pay much attention to your blog then. And today I stumbled upon your blog again because of the Kowloon Walled City. I noticed it’s the same blog because of your 随线 logo–it leaves an impression on you if you can read Chinese. And then I learned about your stay in Beijing. Heck we might’ve even seen each other on those Zhongguancun streets back in 2007, who knows.

Have to admit, the Internet is rather glorious indeed when it comes to things like this.

    1. My whole adventure in Asia started from that very spot – I can’t believe it’s been 9 years already!

When things like this happen it reminds me how much of a small world we live in 🙂
