Shanghai in Motion

Around the time of the Shanghai World Expo last year, the Rhône-Alpes region of France produced a wonderful series of short films about their twin city. I can’t find much background about them but for anyone with an interest in Shanghai, they provide a wonderful glimpse into this burgeoning metropolis at the turn of the last decade.

Episode 1 – The Universal Exposition

Episode 2 – In the heart of the city

Episode 3 – A lifestyle

Episode 4 – Nightlife

Episode 5 – Eat!

On a related note Shanghai was featured in Andrew Marr’s Megacities, a documentary about how some of the world’s biggest cities feed, protect and move their citizens recently produced by the BBC – while a bit clichéd it’s worth seeing if you can get hold of it.

I’ll be in Shanghai in mid-August for a few days – I can’t wait to be back in the mainland again and hopefully explore a few interesting spots.

  1. OMG, I am so glad I came across your website. I so love the videos you made about Shanghai. They captured the essences of the city where I was born and grew up, hustle and bustle hustle (in a good way), dynamic and exciting.

Your videos made me super homesick now. I miss Shanghai and hope to be able to go back for a visit soon.

    Thank you for the videos.

    1. Ok, I realized, you didn’t make those videos, but thanks for posting those. 🙂
